Are churches dying? These numbers from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show the % religious affiliation. Yes we are dying and dying at an increasing rate.

Year    %      Difference

1971  86.2
1976  78.6   7.6
1981  76.4   2.2
1986  73.0   3.4
1991  74.0  -1.0
1996  70.9   3.1
2001  68.0   2.9
2006  63.9   4.1
2011  61.1   2.8
2016  52.1   9.0
2021  43.9   8.2

So in 50 years the percentage of Australians that identify as Christians has halved. If you look closely at the years 2016 and 2021 the pace if picking up.

This is Jordan Peterson interviewing Bishop Robert Barron. It is long at almost two hours but very interesting.

First 20 minutes - It centres around why people are leaving the church: the bible isn't being made compelling, people aren't being shown how to reconcile science with religion.

20 - 60 minutes - The bible as a fundamental truth.

60 - 1:50 minutes - Back to why people are leaving the church: no call to adventure,

and some solutions: "I'll be Christ for the people here", In a world that is constantly changing ritual gives order.

Lutheran Satire is a comedy site on Youtube that I hugely enjoy and also addressed the problems of dying churches.

This is on the futility of trying to change the church to meet the expectations of unbelievers in the hope that they will be drawn to a now more 'relevant' church. There is only one denomination fulling quicker than the Anglican church and that is the incredibly 'relevant' Uniting Church. Get woke, go broke is what they say.

If faith is caught not taught, which the book "Why men hate going to Church" mentions a Swiss study where the likely hood of the children continuing in faith is dependent most on whether the father is involved in church. It would seem strange to separate the carrier of the gospel from the recipient. The article Is youth ministry killing the church? brings up the point "when our children and youth ministries ghettoise young people, we run the risk of losing them after high school graduation". Just the fact that Christianity is waning especially amongst the youth is indication that at least we should be questioning whether the expense and effort placed in youth ministry is worth it and whether it is doing more harm than good.

Why praise music creates a generation of feelly-goody Christians with no real substance, who will leave the church as soon as it is no-longer feelly-goody.
